Before the Call of Duty series got massive with Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare, there were 3 previous games all set in World War II.
Call of Duty – released 2003 on Windows/X360/PS3. Developed by Infinity Ward, much of its theme and gameplay is similar to the Medal of Honor series. Much of Infinity Ward’s development team consisted of members who helped develop Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Call of Duty 2 – released 2005 on Windows/X360. Developed by Infinity Ward, this was the first game in the series to feature multiplayer (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Search & Destroy, Capture the Flag and Headquarters).
Call of Duty 3 – released 2006 on Windows/X360/PS3/Wii/PS2/Xbox. Developed by Treyarch, this was the first major installment in the series not to be developed by Infinity Ward. It was also the first not to be released on the PC platform.
