A little research this morning has confirmed my instant suspicion of last night, as we played through a few hours of Call of Duty World at War on the free downloadable Beta on XBox Live Gold.
The voice for the Allies ‘Overspeak’, those voices you hear throughout the game, is given by none other than Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland of ’24’ fame.
Sutherland, son of unbelievably superb actor father Donald Sutherland (Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, Don’t Look Now and more recently the ABC US TV series Dirty, Sexy, Money) was one of the original US ratpack along with Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, etc. in the eighties.
He starred in many films such as The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Young Guns and Stand By Me before landing the role of Jack Bauer around 2000. Most recently he lent his vocal talents to another non-movie project, the animated feature of the first installment of Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman’s phenominally successful Dragonlance novels: Dragons of Autumn Twilight, playing (the best character) the conflicted and down-right brilliant Raistlin Majere (how many A-List actors were gutted at his bold decision to do this, what must have been a labour of love, for absolute peanuts).
Expect to see more of Sutherland in CoD5: World at War, when it is released here in the UK in one week: November 14th, as he is voicing one of the major characters in the Campaign Game Mode, which is going to be muliplayer playable.
